But a movement against coffee has been growing ever since drinking it became popular. It started out as a way to go against the grain of society and rebel against the growing coffee culture around the world. But soon, many have claimed that giving up on their daily caffeine dose has been nothing but beneficial to their overall health. Here are some benefits you might get from giving up coffee.

Improved digestion

It might be a good source of energy for you to face the day, but coffee is naturally a laxative. In large amounts, it can cause diarrhea or even incontinence to some people, significantly altering people’s bowel habits. But the bad news doesn’t stop there. Long term consumption of coffee has been associated with the digestive condition known as gastro esophageal reflux disease.

This condition happens when the body ingests too much stimulant that it weakens the muscle of the stomach that is typically kept tight and sealed during digestion. This leads to stomach acid going back up into the esophagus, causing pain and damage to the lining. If left untreated, it could severely weaken our food tube resulting in difficulty swallowing or even perforation of the tube.

Better nutrient absorption

Related to the previous point, the caffeine in coffee also inhibits the absorption of certain nutrients and minerals necessary to our body. One in particular, and I’m sure we are familiar with this, is the absorption of calcium. Kids are often prevented from drinking coffee at a young age, not because it makes it harder for them to sleep, but because calcium absorption is hindered with coffee.

As you know, calcium is vital for bone development, which kids experienced at a higher rate than in adults. Other minerals and vitamins affected by coffee are iron and vitamin B.

For the ladies, quitting coffee could be the best way for them to rebalance their hormones. In a 2012 study, researchers found that two cups of coffee a day could elevate the estrogen levels in Black and Asian women, with white women having lower levels. Fluctuating estrogen levels have been associated with conditions like endometriosis, ovarian cancer, and breast cancer.
