These little icons can be included in emails, used on social media or messaging apps. And Discord also supports emotes. Not only that, but the voice chat app also lets you upload custom emojis to a server where it can be used by all members.

That said, this post will show you how to create your own Emoji and upload it to a discord server. First, let’s see how to create custom emotes either on a mobile or computer device. Then we'll see exactly how to upload the emote to a Discord server.

How to make Discord Emotes:

There are many emotes already out there that you can use. But it can be pretty hard finding the perfect one to pass along the exact expression on your face. If that’s the case or you just want to put your creativity to the test, then keep on reading.

Create Custom Emoji Using iPhone:

If you’re using an iPhone, Emojily is one app that allows you to create custom emotes. Download the app from the Apple Play store.

With the app, you can either create a custom emoji from scratch or generate one. There are several templates, faces, pair of eyes, mouths, facial hairs, and some eyebrows to choose from. After customizing everything to your taste, download the file.

Android Users:

If you are using an Android device, an app called Emoji Maker would be useful. This emoji builder lets you even preview your emote as you are customizing it. This way, you can eliminate guesswork, make corrections as you build, and settle for what works.

The application also lets you choose either custom or animated background, amongst other customization options. When you are okay with your design, save the Emoji to your phone.

How to make Emoji on a Computer:

You can use photoshop to create your Emoji. But if you don’t have Photoshop knowledge, Labeley is a free online emoji maker that offers several features. You can choose from different background colors, eyebrows, shapes, facial features, and texts. When you’re done, save the Emoji to your computer.

Now and with your Emoji in place, let’s upload it to your preferred server.

How to upload emotes to a Discord server:
1. Login to Discord.
2. Select a server you want to upload the emote to. Make sure you are the server owner or have the manage Emoji permission.
3. Click the “down arrow” icon next to the server name. This step will reveal a drop-down menu. Choose“Server Settings” from the list.
4. Now from the left sidebar, select “Emoji.”
5. Click the “Upload Emoji” button on the screen.
6. Locate and select from your device the emote you built earlier.
7. After uploading the Emoji, you can set an alias for it. Do this by clicking the text to the right of the Emoji icon and enter your desired name.

Discord says the alias can only contain alphanumeric characters and underscores, plus the length must be of two or more characters. After setting the alias, members of the server can use the emote by putting the alias in a double colon, like this :alias:

Note: The size of any emoji you upload must be under 256kb. Besides, you can only upload a maximum of 50 emojis. To upload an extra 50 more, you’ll need Discord Nitro.
