The precise composition of the bath will depend on the kind of plating that is to be done.

For the level of shine needed, several brighteners are used in the plating process. It is the type of brightener used alongside the composition or concentration that will influence the appearance of the deposit. This way, it can be bright, satin, brilliant, or semi-bright. There are also specific conditions of temperature and other physical factors that must be in place before the plating can be done.

There are several applications that the process is put to. Decorative coating is one of the most widely-used applications of electroless nickel plating. Brilliant nickel has a very high luster finish but also offers resistance to wear and protection from corrosion. In the car making industry, brilliant nickel is used on exhaust pipes, bumpers, trim, and rims.

It is also used for brilliant work on motorcycles and bicycles. There are other applications of electroless nickel plating services like hand tools and a host of household pieces like plumbing and lighting fixtures or even firearms, wire racks, or appliances. In the engineering sector, brightness is not the desired quality and the focus is on protection from corrosion or wear.
