Design and Display

The screen of the Galaxy A50 measures 6.4 inches of OLED Display. That is quite large and so it is difficult to operate the smartphone with one hand. Samsung knows that too, so a one-handed mode has been added to the software. You activate it (once) in the settings.

The front of the smartphone consists almost entirely of the screen. At the top is an infinity-U notch in the middle for the selfie camera and microphone. A thicker black bar is placed under the display. The screen has a stretched out to a common ratio of 19.5: 9. The full HD resolution (2340 by 1080 pixels) delivers a 403ppi and that is sharp enough at this format.

Camera Quality

There are three cameras on the back of the Galaxy A50. The primary camera is a 25-megapixel lens with an aperture of f / 1.7 and electronic image stabilization. He shoots as standard in 12 megapixels. The 8-megapixel wide-angle lens (f / 2.2) has visibility of 123 degrees.

At the front is a 25-megapixel selfie camera with an f / 2.0 apertures. This also uses automatic HDR for photos with a better dynamic range if desired. You can use a portrait mode, but it works via smart software instead of a separate lens. By default, the selfie camera takes photos in 12 megapixels. If you switch to 25 megapixels, the automatic HDR will not work.

Performance

The Galaxy A50 is equipped with an Exynos 7 Octa 9610 processor developed by Samsung. It was announced early 2018 and so far does not seem to be in other smartphones. The chipset is built on ARM's v8 architecture and has eight cores spread over two clusters. The first cluster has four Cortex A73 cores at 2.3 GHz and the second cluster uses four Cortex A53 cores at 1.7 GHz. A Mali-G73 MP3 GPU controls the graphics performance.

Storage & Software

Other specifications of the A50 include 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The first is common, but the amount of storage memory is generous. Most devices in this price segment have 64 GB of memory. Of the 128 GB, you can use approximately 110 GB. If this is not enough for you, you can put a MicroSD card in the smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy A50 runs on Android 9.0 (Pie) in combination with the Samsung OneUI 1.1 software shell.

Battery

The Galaxy A50 is equipped with a non-exchangeable Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh. That is considerable for this type of smartphone. The good to above-average battery life is therefore logical. Charging is via a USB-C connection. Samsung supplies a 15 W charger.

Price & Availability

Samsung worked hard for its S series and got highly succeed with its Samsung S10 that is a real competitor to the other brands. Same as it Samsung can’t rely only upon its S series for which he had to build some of the more spectacular smartphones in the market.
